The Art Scene of Loja Ecuador

ARTIST - Luis Miguel Cisneros Galindo   (1987 - ) Studied at Universidad Tecnica Particular de Loja (UTPL) and the Instituto Tecnológico Superior Sudamericano - Loja. Owner of the  Madriguera Café - Art Shop . Luis has an excellent command of the graphic arts, especially evident in the way he uses repetitive images to create a singular, larger image. Much of his prolific work is also geared toward smaller objects of art to be more affordable and have a wider audience dissemination - such as stickers, buttons, cards, t-shirts, stuffed dolls, and even jewelry. This is not to slight his expansive works because he has contributed many fine murals to the Loja scene. In addition to the more common art techniques of Lojano artists, Luis also produces works using woodcuts and silkscreens. ARTIST - Gabriel Villalta (Gabriel Alexander Villalta Moncada) Artist, sculptor, and gallery owner (La Guadaña de la Hora Zero).  Born in Zapotillo of Loja province, Gabriel moved to the city of Loja in 2012 where he completed his higher studies in the visual arts career at the National University of Loja (UNL). ARTIST - Aquiles Salinas Ochoa Studio: Iki Arte Aquiles believes that art can be a moving force for political good. He lives by the motto "Full self-awareness in every act of our life" and urges others to do the same. Aquiles uses a wide variety of techniques to communicate his ideas: murals, mosaics, painting, photography (still and cinema), typography, graphic illustrations, assemblages, and more. "Rostros del futuro" (1987) ARTIST - Angel Braulio Aguilar Masaco  Studied artistic drawing and painting at Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL). Gallery owner of Galeria De Arte "Aguilar."  He considers his art to have developed from 1980 through six stages, the current stage being called "Abstract Eclectic." His work has been exhibited throughout Ecuador, plus Brazil, Bolivia, Chile and Spain. His works are held in numerous private and public collections around the world. ARTIST - Boris Salinas Tom á s Ochoa   (1971 - ) Boris eschews the internet in favor of one-on-one interactions with individuals and the public. A prolific sculptor, he loves to share his studio and knowledge with numerous students, mentoring their innate abilities into refinement. Working from his compound housing hand-built, uniquely decorated studios and residences for his extended family, Boris has pursued his passion since leaving the arts program at UTPL, Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja.  See the post about " Artist Designed Houses " for more on the Salinas compound.
